Thousands of visitors attended “Itinerary to Expand the Country”, one of the major events at Hue Festival 2010.

The program took place on a big stage of nearly 450 square meters, with six stories and three parts to celebrate Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary.
The show began with the story of Princess Huyen Tran, who had to marry a Cham King in exchange for two districts of O and Ly. It was followed by Lord Nguyen Hoang’s expansion to the south; King Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue defeated China’s Qing army of 290,000 in the north; King Gia Long’s unification of Vietnam, setting up the capital at Phu Xuan and naming the country “Viet Nam” in 1804.
The third part featured President Ho Chi Minh, the revolutionary army and the country’s unification after 1975.
The show used about 1000 artists, featuring performance and installation art to offer a look at 700 years of defending, expanding and gaining independence.
