Grammy nominee to sing in Hanoi

Monday, May 31, 2010 (GMT+7)

American jazz diva diva Andromeda Turre will begin performing at Le Club, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi as of June 2.

Born in New York City to musical parents, Andromeda Turre developed a love for the arts at a young age: she started to play the piano and compose music at the age of five. Andromeda has grown into actress of many talents. Her colorful past includes feats such as performing with Ray Charles, acting in a play by Woody Allen, and being nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008 for the "Best Vocal Jazz Album."

Musically speaking, Andromeda is a veritable renaissance woman. After studying classical dance at a studio in Harlem, Andromeda studied world dance with Alvin Alley. Music became her career at a pivotal point: she was asked to perform backup for Ray Charles. This move launched Andromeda’s professional career. During her time with the Ray Charles Orchestra, Andromeda was promoted to vocal director and arranger as well as lead Raelette.

After working with Charles, Andromeda was hired as the lead vocalist for the J.C. Hopkins Biggish Band. Performing at venues from New York to Los Angeles, she sang jazz standards and J.C.’s Grammy award-winning original tunes. In addition, Andromeda was cast as the title-role of “Rose” in J.C.’s plays “Rose does Rico."

Andromeda also starred in an off-Broadway production inspired by Woody Allen’s "Murder Mystery Blues" at the Midtown Theater in New York, which managed to show her versatility: in one show she acted, sang, danced and played the piano.

Andromeda’s fame soon reached international levels. For 14 months she was featured as the “Queen of the Blues” as she sang with the Jazz Big Band at Tokyo Disney. While in Japan, Andromeda recorded her debut album “Introducing Andromeda Turre,” which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008. The self-produced album contains four original songs and several jazz classics, which Andromeda arranged herself.

Based in Los Angeles, Andromeda continues to perform both original works and standards with her own group. She also performs as a featured vocalist with many other bands and works as a vocal coach, songwriter, arranger, producer and performance coach.

Andromeda’s voice is now her passport, bringing her all over the world. She will charm audiences until August 31 at Le Club, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:45 pm onwards.
