Saturday, May 08, 2010 (GMT+7)
Returning to Vietnam in late April, make-up artist Danny Dzung is shooting a video clip entitled “The itinerary back to the motherland.” He will visit Kien Giang province’s Phu Quoc Island, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and the Central Highlands’ city of Bao Loc.
Danny Dzung was born in Can Tho and grew up on Phu Quoc Island. After winning the Golden Scissors Award for Best Barber, he resettled in the U.S. Danny Dzung returns home annually to shoot DVDs on living art and make-up art. He has made 30 DVDs which are highly appreciated by overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese artists. This year, he is shooting a DVD on Vietnam’s dramatic make-up art.

Danny Dzung makes-up for famous cai luong artist Bach Tuyet.
On April 27, Danny Dzung shot the first scenes at the HCM City Television (HTV) studio with the participation of some senior Hat Boi artists. This clip will be aired on HTV this June and will be part of Dzung’s DVD, which comes out this year and will be distributed in Vietnam and the U.S. The remaining parts of the DVD will be shot in Phu Quoc, Can Tho and Bao Loc.
Dzung went to Phu Quoc to see Tuong artisans who performed at the Nguyen Trung Truc temple during the temple festival. “I was really attracted by the creativeness on the faces of Tuong artists. Through make-up art, the nature of each character is shown through their faces. I wish that through my DVD, Vietnamese people who were born and grew up in the U.S. would understand about the make-up art in Tuong, Cheo, Hat Boi and Cai Luong, which is very unique”.
In this DVD, Danny Dzung plays a young painter who learns about the tragedy of characters from traditional Vietnamese dramas, including Duong Quy Phi, Vo Tac Thien, Phan Kim Lien and Ms. Dieu.
