The Hi-end cafe
Thursday, July 01, 2010 (GMT+7)
A new café bar in Ho Chi Minh City puts the music first. But Hi-end Cafe is not your typical ‘music café’, which are a dime a dozen in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is a hip venue featuring the latest electronic audio equipment, as well as antiques, and a place where music is both the message and the medium.
It’s also not home to a clique of any kind. You can hear all kinds of music from jazz to rock, blues to folk, classical to pop. Plus, it’s just a great place to hang out. The setting is artistic and relaxing. Customers sit around chatting about life, music, or simply the weather!
Personally, I love to go to Hi-end Café alone after a hard day’s work. The first thing I do when arriving is find a quiet corner and enjoy the music. The seating is comfortable and I enjoy the fact that both English language and Vietnamese songs are played.
The coffee is excellent, too. I savour each drop of that bitter bean as I kick back and lose myself in the music. And that’s easy to do. Hi-end Café’s audio equipment is second to none in Ho Chi Minh City and the acoustics of the space are perfect. You never leave with ringing ears! Of course, it goes without saying a café called Hi-end, should have state-of-the-art gear!
The café owner is a passionate music lover and enjoys hanging out with his customers. His love for music and the arts rubs off on everyone.
Hi-end Café is not a large space compared to other heavily-invested coffee shops in the centre of the bustling Ho Chi Minh City. Situated on a small street in District 1 you might even call it a modest venue. But Hi-end Café seems to know that plenty of people know quality sound when they hear it. The overall aesthetic design and vibe contribute to make this a very special place.
So next time you’re kicking around town I hope to see down at Hi-end Café – I guarantee that there will be music!
